Soil clay content is an important soil attribute and has been used to classification of phosphorus status in the soil in order to determinate the needing of phosphorus amounts to be applied to crops production. The aim of this research was to adjust the method for soil clay content determination, adopted by the laboratories of Southern Brazil (ROLAS-RS/SC), for soil clay content evaluation in Rondônia soils. The study was conducted using 50 soil samples from Rondônia State with wide range clay content. ABSTRACT Sustainable agricultural production systems can improve physical attributes of soil as well as increase carbon and nitrogen stocks in soils. The objective of this study was to evaluate changes in the stability of soil aggregates and contents and stocks of carbon and nitrogen after the conversion of native forest to crop-livestock-forest integration systems in the region of Western Pará. O recurso natural solo pode ser definido como um corpo natural, sintetizado em forma de perfil, composto de uma mistura variável de minerais, divididos em pedaços e desintegrados e de matéria orgânica em decomposição, que cobre a terra em uma camada fina e que fornece, quando contém, as quantidades necessárias de ar e de água, amparo mecânico e em parte, subsistência para os vegetais. De uma maneira geral, os solos minerais apresentam quatro componentes principais: substâncias minerais (45%), matéria orgânica (5%), água (25%) e ar (25%). Knowledge of the soil water retention curve (SWRC) is essential for understanding and modeling hydraulic processes in the soil. However, direct determination of the SWRC is time consuming and costly. In addition, it requires a large number of samples, due to the high spatial and temporal variability of soil hydraulic properties. An alternative is the use of models, called pedotransfer functions (PTFs), which estimate the SWRC from easy-to-measure properties. Objetivou-se estudar o comportamento dos atributos físicos e dos teores e estoques de carbono do solo em sistema agroflorestal multiestratificado (SAF), comparativamente a diferentes modalidades de uso solo, sendo elas o cultivo de cacaueiro sob manejo agroecológico (CAC), pastagem cultivada (PAS) e floresta nativa (FLN). A área de estudo localiza-se na estação experimental da CEPLAC em Ouro do Preto do Oeste, RO. Nos quatro tratamentos foram instaladas, ao acaso, cinco parcelas de 20 m x 30 m. No Acre, uma das características marcantes dos solos é a presença de minerais de argila do tipo 2:1, que confere padrões diferenciados de consistência em função do conteúdo de água.
